14. Muse - Defector

Muse로 떠난 음악 여행은 지칠 줄을 모른다. 2015년 발매된 Muse의 7번째 스튜디오 음반인 'Drones'는 로스쿨 1학년 때인 2016년에 정말 많이 들었다. 그때 나는 닥터드레 헤드폰을 쓰고 있었다.

당시에는 앨범 수록곡 중에 Dead Inside, Psycho, Reapers를 특히 좋아했었는데, 다시 음반을 청해 들으니 8번 트랙인 Defector가 가장 듣기에 좋다. 모든 세션에 힘이 넘친다. 북을 찢고 뛰쳐나올 것만 같은 드럼 사운드와 공명을 최대로 출력한 듯한 일렉 기타 사운드가 인상적이다. 코드 구성은 꽤나 단조로운데, 단조로움이 지루함으로 느껴지지 않는다.

폭발적인 사운드와 함께 가사도 정말 내 마음에 쏙 든다. 마치 나의 인생관을 음악으로 형상화한 느낌이다. 정말이지, 딱 내가 살고 싶은 모습, 내가 원하는 모습을 옮겨 적었다. 매튜가 내 머릿속이라도 들어갔다 온 걸까. 구속받지 않고 자유롭게 살고 싶다. 항상 모든 일에 최선을 다하며, 지치지 않고 쓰러지지 않고, 눈치 보지도 않고 움츠려들지도 않고 말이다.
