Coldplay - Music of the spheres

콜드플레이의 2021년 앨범. 가장 최신의 정규앨범이다. 작년 한 해 얼마나 정신이 없었는지, 신보가 나왔는지도 모르고 있었다. BTS와 협업한 My universe는 카페나 길거리에서 자주 들려서 싱글로 발매된 줄로만 알았는데, 알고 보니 이 앨범 수록곡이었다. 나이를 먹었나보다. 음악을 찾아 들어야 하는 나이가 되었다.

실험적이라기보다는 대중적인 느낌의 강한 수록곡들이 많다. 음악의 결은 2011년 앨범 Mylo Xyloto를 연상시키는데, 그만큼의 울림은 다소 부족하다. Mylo Xyloto의 인트로 뮤직은 정말 그 40초만으로 눈물이 맺히게 하는 감동이 있었는데, Music of the spheres의 인트로 뮤직은 그에 미치지는 못한다.

Higher Power, Let Somebody Go, People of the Pride라는 세 곡을 타이틀로 정했는데, Higher Power는 약간 하이틴스러운 느낌이 강하고, Let Somebody Go는 서정성 짙은 발라드 곡이다. People of the Pride는 꽤 강렬한 밴드 사운드가 바탕이 된 힘 넘치는 곡인데, 곡 전개나 베이스 모티브가 X&Y 시절의 사운드를 연상시킨다.

오히려 가장 귀에 맴도는 노래는 8번 트랙인 Biutyful이었는데, 약간 뭐랄까 밝은 느낌의 Fix you 같다는 인상을 받았다. 서정적인 멜로디와 가사가 마음을 촉촉하게 만들어준다. 하나 연상되는 것은 조장혁의 중독된 사랑이다. 마틴이 조장혁 노래를 들었을리 만무한데, 곡의 싸비에 계속 반복되는 'beautiful~' 부분이 마치 중독된 사랑의 끝부분 '널 위해~'를 연상시킨다. 나중에 마틴을 만나게 되면 조장혁 노래 들어봤는지 물어보고 싶다.
